Before/After School Program Leaders

BGC Brantford operates several program locations at which a Before/After School Program Leaders can be employed, however dependent of the ‘governing body’ there may be varying program delivery models or requirements.
1) Ministry of Education Legislated Before/After School Programs
Position is responsible to assist with the execution of activities for either children 4 & 5 years of age (Kindergarten) or children 5-12 years of age (school-age) based on How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and Recreation
2) Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism & Cultural Industries After School Program
Position is responsible to assist with the execution of activities for children 5-12 years based on the MHSTCI After School Program framework
3) BGCB Evening Drop-In Recreation Program
Position is responsible to assist with the execution of activities for children 6-16 years based on the Clubs Step It Up! Philosophy

Education: Current academic engagement at the Secondary School level and/or Post-Secondary School graduate in Recreation & Leisure, Child & Youth Work, Teaching, Early Childhood Education or a related discipline at college or university level   *   Qualifications: Current First Aid/CPR   *   HIGH FIVE PHCD
Applicable to EDU program ONLY: Individual must be 18 years of age & must provide proof of immunization
Experience: 1-2 years previous experience working within a licensed child care environment, MHSTCI after school program environment, recreation/camp environment or similar

• Deliver program in compliance with legislative and/or best practices
• Provide an environment and program supplies that are safe and free for any hazards to children • Perform administrative tasks such as recording attendance, completing accident/incident report
• Ensure that program areas and their equipment are maintained in a state that will reflect the high standards of the organization • Interact with children and families in a pleasant, positive and professional manner

• There are high physical demands associated with this position such as lifting up to 50lbs, bending, squatting, sitting, twisting, reaching, active program engagement, etc..

• Position works within a climate controlled facility, however programming requirements will require the position to conduct some job responsibilities in outdoor environments/conditions
• Due to the large number of children & youth serviced the working environment can be extremely loud during peak hours of operation.
• The environment can be fast paced and demanding – position is required to be extremely resourceful, ‘think quick on their feet’, manage multiply tasks and issues, able to prioritize and resolve issues effectively, thoroughly and effectively.

• Position is responsible for the direct supervision of children

Child Care Supply Staff 

The position, in the absence of the regular leader is responsible to implement and execute activities for either Toddlers, Preschool, Kinder or School-Age children, based on an existing program plan and How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and Recreation.

Education: Secondary School Graduate and/or Post-Secondary Graduate in similar or related field an asset

Qualifications: Current First Aid/CPR
Experience: 1-2 years previous experience working within a licensed child care environment or similar

• Deliver the program within the guidelines of the program’s Operating Best Practices
• Provide an environment and program supplies that are safe and free for any hazards to children
Initiative

• As requested, perform administrative tasks such as recording attendance, answering phone, completing accident/incident report or medication reports
• Ensure that program areas and their equipment are maintained in a state that will reflect the high standards of the organization
• Ensure all equipment maintains a level of safety and concerns are reported to supervisor

• With the support of the ‘designated lead’ implement existing program outline
• Observe and asses children’s progress and behaviour to ensure programs meet identified individual and group needs
• Attend to toileting, diapering needs of children as required, including toilet training
• Be continuously aware of children’s allergies and other special nutritional and/or health conditions
• Administer First Aid/CPR as necessary

• Interact with children and families in a pleasant, positive and professional manner
• Accommodate parent’s instructions for daily care routines

• There are high physical demands associated with this position such as lifting up to 50lbs, bending, squatting, sitting, twisting, reaching, etc..

• Position works in an air conditioned environment, however is also required to provide several hours of outdoor programming during all seasons (spring, summer, fall and winter)
• Due to the number of children serviced the working environment can be extremely loud during peak hours of operation.
• The environment can be fast paced and demanding – position is required to be extremely resourceful, ‘think quick on their feet’, manage multiply tasks and issues, able to prioritize and resolve issues effectively, thoroughly and effectively.
